Interested in Being a Part of the DCWST Experience?  Space is Limited, So We Urge Prospective New Members to Complete the Process As Soon As Possible.  Registration Packets For New Members Will Be Accepted, Without Imposition of Late Fees, Until December 10, 2011. 

Returning Members Must Mail Registration Materials By November 15, 2011 to Avoid Late Fees.

Membership Process

There are three (3) separate steps to registering for DCWST:  (1) becoming a member of the United States Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) and, for freestyle skiers and snowboarders, the United States of America Snowboard Associations (USASA); (2) completing the DCWST Release of Liability Form; and (3) completing a DCWST Registration Form.  Instructions for each component of the registration process are included below.  PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL COMPONENTS OF THE REGISTRATION PROCESS  MUST BE COMPLETED AND RECEIVED BY DCWST PRIOR TO PARTICIPATION IN ANY TEAM-RELATED ACTIVITIES.

Part 1:  USSA / USASA Registration

DCWST is a team affiliated with the Pennsylvania Alpine Racing Association (PARA).  PARA is part of the USSA.  Affiliation with these organizations enables member teams to purchase liability insurance through USSA under its club program.  A requirement for insurance is that all members of each club be members of USSA.  Accordingly, each DCWST member -- alpine ski racers, freestyle skiers and snowboarders, alike -- must become members of USSA.

USSA membership also enables alpine ski racers to compete in USSA and PARA events.  Unfortunately, USSA membership does not provide competition opportunities for freestyle skiers and snowboarders because events for these athletes are organized by USASA.  As such, all freestyle skiers and snowboarders who wish to compete must join USASA in addition to USSA.

USSA Registration -- All DCWST Members:

  1. A separate registration is required for each DCWST member; parents must register for minor children.
  2. Go to the USSA website at www.ussa.org.  On the right-hand side of the page you will find the <Membership Tools> dropdown menu.  From this menu, choose <Online Registration>. 
  3. This year (2011) all registrants (new and returning) must create a new account.  If you are a returning member, select your prior account name where indicated and most of the fields will populate automatically.  Create your  account by clicking the <Create Account> link on the right-hand side of the page.  Parents must create account in their child's/children's name(s).
  4. Once e you have an account and have logged in to USSA, follow the USSA registration instructions as you are prompted, paying particular attention to the supplemental instructions provided in Steps 5-8 below.
  5. STATE and CLUB AFFILIATION: When you are asked to choose your state you must select <Pennsylvania> because DCWST is a PARA club.  After selecting <Pennsylvania> you must select <DCWST> from the list of clubs.  (If you choose Maryland as your state affiliation you will not have the option to select DCWST as your club.)  The "Division" should automatically be "Eastern" after "PA" and "DCWST" are chosen.
  6. SPORT AND MEMBERSHIP TYPE: Select from the options listed below based on the types of competitions in which you may participate.
    1. Alpine Ski Racing Only -- choose <Alpine> for your sport and then <Alpine Youth> (12 years and younger) or <Alpine Competitor> (13 years and older) for your membership type.  If renewing, the proper age group should display automatically.  This correctly and automatically adds a fee for your PARA dues.
    2. Freestyle Skiing Only -- choose <Freestyle> for your sport and then <Freestyle Rookie. for your membership type.
    3. Alpine Ski Racing and Freestyle Skiing -- choose <Alpine> only for your sport; you do not have to register as a freestyle skier.  Choose <Alpine Youth> (12 years and younger) or <Alpine Competitor> (13 years and older) for your membership type.  This correctly and automatically will add a fee for your PARA dues.
    4. Snowboarding -- choose <Snowboard> for your sport and then <Snowboard Competitor Regional> for your membership type.
  7. MEMBER COMMUNICATION: Check the box titled "Subscribe to your division or state email list for important communications such as schedule and event information.  and agree to the stated waiver.
  8. You will also be asked to provide "Primary Medical Insurance Information"
  9. Once your payment is processed, you will see the "Registration Complete" page.  Be sure to PRINT VERIFICATION OF YOUR USSA MEMBERSHIP, since it must be submitted with your DCWST Membership Registration Form.  Finally, be sure to cut out your USSA card and save it to use when registering for USSA races this season.

USASA Registration -- USASA-Competing Freestyle Skiers and Snowboarders Only:

If you are a freestyle skier or snowboarder who wishes to compete in USASA events, follow the steps below to become a USASA member.

  1. Go to the USASA website at www.usasa.org.  Click the <Join/Login> link at the top, right-hand side of the page.
  2.  If you have registered online with USASA in the past, login with your previous username and password.  New members should create an account by clicking the <Click Here> link at the top of the login page.  Once you have an account have logged in to USASA, you will begin the registration process.
  3. CHOOSE YOUR REGION: Click on the dropdown menu and scroll down to and select the <Appalachian> region.
  4. CHOOSE YOUR DIVISION: Snowboarders should choose <Snowboarder> and freestyle skiers should choose <Skier>.
  5. Fill in your name and address information and click <Submit>.
  6. Once your payment is processed, you will reach the registration verification page.  Be sure to PRINT VERIFICATION OF YOUR USASA MEMBERSHIP, since it must be submitted with your DCWST Membership Registration Form.

Part 2:  Completion of DCWST Garrett Sports Inc. Release of Liability Form

The Release of Liability Form is included in the downloadable Membership Registration Form.  A stand-alone copy is available Here.  Complete and sign the bottom of the form.  Parents may complete one form for all of their children by listing each child's name and age on the bottom of the form.

Submit the completed DCWST Garrett Sports Inc. Release of Liability Form with your DCWST Membership Registration Form (see Part 3, below).

Part 3:  Completion of DCWST Membership Registration Form

Complete one form per team member and submit all paperwork, including copies of USSA and USASA verifications as appropriate, plus payment to DCWST at the address provided on the Membership Registration Form.  Registration forms for returning members must be postmarked by November 15, 2011 or a late fee will be assessed.  New members must submit registration packets prior to December 10, 2011.
