Welcome to the Deep Creek Winter Sports Team Website.
We are gearing up for another exciting season of ski / snowboard training and racing at Wisp Resort. We are pleased to provide this website as an effective way to communicate and provide information to our current members and prospective members.
For our returning member families, the site provides team information, including training and event schedules; event results; team and community announcements; and team photos and videos. We also have an “equipment swap” page that provides all of us another outfitting option for our growing racers and riders.
For prospective member families, the site will provide answers to many of the questions you may have about our team – including perhaps the most important: “Why do all those kids in the DCWST jackets I see in the lift lines each weekend have such big smiles on their faces?” Now you will know! For any questions the site does not answer, prospective member families are invited to use the contact information provided and send us your questions directly.
As we proceed through the 2011 - 2012 season I would like to thank all of our parents and board members who have worked to create an opportunity for kids to train and compete at Wisp Resort. To our new members, please keep in mind that the Deep Creek Winter Sports Team is a non-profit, parent-run organization. We rely heavily on parent support. Snowboarding and skiing are lifelong sports we all can enjoy, and being part of the team is a family affair!
We are always open to suggestions. If at anytime you have questions, concerns or comments regarding the team, please feel free to contact me.
Enjoy the site, and KEEP thinking SNOW!

Each season we field an impressive Alpine Traveling Team that competes at the highest levels in USSA-sanctioned competitions around the region (and, for many of our skiers, around the country). We also have a developmental Alpine Team that, although not competing at other resorts, trains intensively each winter weekend with our coaches and their teammates here at our home mountain, Wisp Resort. These skiers seek to improve their fundamental skills, racing ability and acumen before progressing, if they choose, to the Traveling Team. No matter the level, the focus of the entire program is on developing skills in an environment that is challenging, supportive and fun.
Our Freestyle and Snowboarding Teams also include members at different skill levels, with some regularly competing in USASA-sponsored events across the region, and for some around the country, and others developing their skills at Wisp and competing just in events sponsored here.
Membership is open to everyone, but instruction and competition are geared toward youth aged 7 to 18. Children 6 and under must be accompanied by an adult parent or guardian at all times on the mountain. While no prior racing experience is necessary, all team members should be comfortable skiing all terrain at Wisp Resort in a safe and controlled manner and able to make linked, parallel turns.
Our members come from around the mid-Atlantic region. Many live in beautiful Garrett County, home of Wisp Resort, and many others come from the Washington, D.C., Baltimore and Pittsburgh areas. One of the great joys of our program is making new, lasting friendships with other lovers of winter sports from different areas around our region.

Registration for returning members opens October 5, 2011 and ends November 15, 2011. New member registrations must be submitted by December 10, 2011.
On-mountain training begins in early December (weather permitting). The Alpine Traveling Team usually begins on-snow training the first weekend in December. Other team members attend an “Assessment Day” the second weekend in December (tenatively, December 11th, for 2011), when all team members, returning and new, ski with our coaches so their skills can be assessed. Each skier is then assigned to a group and a coach or coaches to begin the season. We have a “Holiday Mini-Camp” scheduled for each of four mornings during the holiday week between Christmas and New Years Day. Thereafter, training is scheduled every Saturday and Sunday morning, along with one weekday night each week (alternating Thursdays and Fridays), through the end of the season.
While attendance at every training session is not required, many of our members do attend most every scheduled training session. As with any sport, our athletes generally progress in direct proportion to the time and effort they devote to training.
Competitions in which our traveling team participates are held at various resorts throughout the season. Three such competitions are held at Wisp Resort each year, including the Wisp Cup Race, held mid-season, and the two-day Governor’s Cup Race, which is held in early March. All of our team members, including those not on the Traveling Team, typically participate in these fun-filled and exciting racing events here at our home mountain.
